Wild and Water
Wild and Water is a special monthly swimming clinic held at Emory University. Wild and Water is about instruction. Considering the disturbing statistics on drowning particularly in the case of economically disadvantaged, urban children, proper development of swimming skills saves lives. Wild and Water was founded by Laura White a key volunteer with Wilderness Works. Laura managed to bring the Dekalb Aquatics Swim Team in to provide free swimming lessons. Laura also generated grant funding to pay for pool maintenance fees.
Because of Wild and Water, Wilderness Works children are able to arrive at summer camp and Atlanta public pools with greater confidence. Wild and Water teaches techniques from floating and treading water to crawl, backstroke, breast stroke, butterfly stroke, diving and turning. Wild and Water is teaching needy children respect for water safety and making swimming that much more popular.
